    Beauty with Fortitude

    This movie series was just the right thing for me-I was recovering from illness and needed something to binge watch. This is based on a real life character who lived during the reign of Queen Victoria in England. Lily was raised as a free spirit in a house of brothers and married a much older man who lied to her about his wealth. She became well known as a great beauty which opened many doors to her. Although I don't agree with her choices-still I have to admire her strength of character during that time in history.

    DVD'S of LILLIE are a good value

    The DVD'S of LILLIE with FRANCESCA ANNIS are in excellent condition. The series was made in 1978 on VIDEO TAPE, I think, so the picture quality is good but not up to modern DVD quality. The owners of the series fixed up the tape the best they could. FRANCESCA won the British BAFTA award for her performance of Lillie Langtry who was famous in Britian and America in the 1800's. I saw the series on Masterpiece and parts of it have stayed with me all of these decades. My discs are in excellent condition. The cardboard box is frayed. I was very lucky on the low price I payed, about $5. I was very lucky to have found the series at all.

    Lillie interesting but slow

    I enjoyed this series because I am interested in the time period. All of the acting is superb. I particularly enjoyed the portrayals of Oscar Wilde and James Whistler. Francesca Annis and the actor who portrays the Prince of Wales are very good. The drawback is that Lillie Langtry was apparently a nice but rather shallow person with a natural acting ability. Her life was essentially dull. But I liked it anyway. If you are interested in the period and do not require an intricate plot, you will like this series.

    Romantic Tale from Victorian Times

    This is a fine edition of the PBS series about the great beauty Lillie Langtry. As a artist's model and actress, she charmed hearts both in her native England and in the U.S. The acting, sets, and script are all excellent.
