Persuading her doctor husband Clay (Bill Pullman) to enter a $700,000 cocaine deal so they can pay off a loan shark, she escapes with the money and hides out in a small town where she becomes involved with the young, naive Swale (Peter Berg). Clay hires tenacious private investigator Harlan (Bill Nunn) to track down his wife and the money.
