Synopsis
In 1974, Mark Donohue took a year off from driving at the height of his racing career to write "The Unfair Advantage," a candid and revealing book about his journey through the world of auto racing -- from amateur SCCA races in his own '57 Corvette to winning the Indy 500 in Roger Penske's McLaren M16. This new edition contains over 60 additional photographs and comments from people who worked and raced with Donohue during the 1960s and early 1970s.

    Only the good die young

Read this years ago from the library and wanted my own copy. It's the biography of a very talented and special driver. The first edition ends before his tragic death. The later reprint may cover that in an epilogue. Looking forward to re-reading when the weather gets colder.

  • An excellent book about a influential driver and engineer.

For those of us that grew up in the sixties and remember these races, cars and drivers it is an excellent read. The coming of age tale about most racing series and how problems were solved before any real understanding of vehicle dynamics and engine modification that we take for granted today.

  • Classic Insights Into Modern SportsCar Racing

I read this book 20 plus years ago from the library, and liked it then. Having been a race fan for decades, I knew some of the thinks Mark Donohue talked about, but he behind the scenes info is very interesting. The engineer / driver was a new thing, and probably changed racing and car development forever. Watching sports car races this year reminded me of this book, so I bought it.

  • If you like classic racing stories. This is a great one!

C'mon really? Mark Donahue was an incredible racer and engineer. Very modest about himself in the book but there are lots of great stories within the story.

  • Unfair Advantage by the Legendary Mark Donahue

Great read for a racer/ technical person -- organized by vehicle development. Not about track bunnies and debauchery -- such as Smokey Yunick's " Best Damn Garage in Town" -- also a greta read
