The unit has a box that has all the connections for power, antenna and control that you can hide in your dash or anywhere that works for you. It is easy to put together, all of the ports are marked very well and the build quality is good. You get all the pieces you need and it includes a remote. You can either wire this into your stock radio directly with RCA cables if your stock radio has the ports or you can just choose a frequency that the converter can tune to, there are many to choose from. Check your antenna connections before you start to make sure that you have all the same fittings. My GM truck needed a pair of lead adapters so that all the antenna leads could connected. There is more then enough wire to get the positive and negative connections done and the wire for the control unit is good and long. Setup was easy as long as you read the instructions, you have to forgive some of the grammar issues. The sound on regular AM and FM is good and being able to get the HD stations is great. The display gives good information and I have no problem understanding it. Make sure when you place the control box that you can see it while your driving, I had to move mine once because the shift lever blocked it. I could go on, but I don't think I need to. The value of being able to get HD without having to get a new audio system is great. Do allow about 2 hours for install, it's not complicated, just some thinking on how to hide it and you do have a few connections to make. Read full review

I bought this HD receiver for home use, although it was made as a car add-on. I have it wired to a 12v DC power supply and a pair of home speakers and it works wonderfully. It has no internal volume control but my speakers have built-in controls I use for that purpose. Only two local stations have HD broadcasting abilities. One is a non-commercial station that broadcasts news on HD-1 and classical on HD-2 (the music sounds spectacular). The other is a commercial station with a classic hits format on HD-1 and 60s-70s oldies on HD-2, which is a rebroadcast of an AM station giving us stereo on the HD signal. I wish more stations would do HD. This is a very good product, but I'm afraid that it will go the way of my AM-Stereo receiver...buried in the back of my closet.

Excellent product. Because it's universal / uses it's own lcd display / controls, you can attach it to pretty much any head unit. The only drawback is having to use the display to change channels. But if you wan to keep your existing head unit, don't have HD-R, this is a great way to go. Very much worth the effort imho. Take the time to drill some holes in the top / sides / bottom. It's said they get very hot otherwise. I did and have no issues at all with heat. A bit warm, but that's it. Also, if you're going to use the RCA jacks, they need to be grounded. There are 2 ways to do it: 1) wrap some wire around them and ground the wire. 2) solder a piece of 24ga wire from the RCA jack common ground pin to the ground pin coming in from the power plug. I did the later and it was quite easy. Of course, you can avoid using the RCA jacks completely if you want and just use the FM modulation (over the antenna wire). That's what I'm going with, the sound is fantastic. As is the reception!Read full review

Great way to convert desirable OE radio to HD. These were promotional units given to radio stations in 2006. "Not for resale." Ha! Good quality if installed correctly. This is my second unit because soda was spilled in my first unit and unit quit working. Working well. Don't pay a lot as new HD capable radio heads are about 115 from Crutchfield and others.

I have this hooked up to my home stereo system so I can get HD broadcasts in the house. This is a very good unit. In my location, it pulls in an HD signal that is stronger and more noise-free than the standard FM signal that I get off of a very good receiver or a good FM tuner. For standard FM on the receiver or tuner, I could not receive a stereo FM signal without noticeable noise, but on this HD unit, stereo FM comes in noise free. Also, at least for the station I primarily listen to, the signal quality if very good in terms of frequency balance and dynamic range, and noticeably better than I can get from most internet radio streams. All that is needed for home use is a suitable 12V DC power supply, and a means to connect it to an antenna. I had a spare 12V brick lying around and it works well; a 12V wall wart I tried did not, probably because of too much noise. The antenna connection is a standard Motorola plug; I bought a Motorola-to-F connector cable (F fittings are standard coax connectors), and connected the F end to a rabbit ears.Read full review

I hooked this up to my old Pioneer sx-770 receiver and was amazed at the clear sound and separation. I used a old 12 volt power supply from radio shack I had laying around. I also used a car radio antenna and just set it in the corner. I live just north of Detroit and could not believe what I have been missing on the radio. I found out where the oldies station went to, as well as the easy rock station. I can't wait to put this in my blazer and have commercial free radio in the truck. I think I will order another one and use it in the house. I think this unit is well worth the money and I can't believe all the extra stations this thing gets. One thing I had to do was run a ground wire from my pioneer to the radio unit to get clear audio. Might not have to do that when used in a vehicle.

The installation took some time but worth it. Local sports and talk on AM were noisy and faded on the car's 12 year old OEM radio. But the same local stations on HD-2 and HD-3 they are crystal clear. The fidelity of the FM for non-hd stations is excellent with better audio "presence" than the car's OEM radio. I noticed improved AM reception through the HD Radio as well. I was also surprised by the quality of the RDS display. Lots of "memory" settings. We live in an area with dozens of local high powered FM stations, but finding a viable frequency for the FM modulator was simple and the modulator is not susceptible to interference. A direct connection to the car's audio system yields even better audio quality.

This product performs very well. Also great if you don't have RCA inputs on your head unit. The receiver has a built-in FM Modulator so you can connect with your radio. I would recommend this product. One important thing everyone should know. The receiver has a floating ground. Meaning if it's not fastened down to the chassis of the vehicle it will not work well. There is a way to rectify the issue by attaching a wire from the exterior RCA output to the ground connection.
