The best Second World War film you will ever see
On the whole I do not go for War films - I actually only bought it because Jim Caviezel is in it - but this was a beautiful film. It's not all gung-ho and bravado, it is thought-provoking and seen through the eyes of the young men doing the fighting. The fear, pain and thoughts are laid bare before you. Jim Caviezel's character is wonderful and the narrations complete the scenes. A lot of the dialogue was cut and this is definitely a case of less is more. Volumes are spoken through eyes and faces.On the whole I do not go for War films - I actually only bought it because Jim Caviezel is in it - but this was a beautiful film. The Thin Red Line
A sprawling masterpiece about some American soldiers fighting die-hard Japanese troops on a Pacific island in WW2. Some of the star names involved make just fleeting appearances but Nick Nolte is memorable as a gung-go colonel. Directed by Terrence Malick, whose movies are always as jaw-droppingly beautiful to watch (The New World, Days of Heaven etc) as they are dramatically powerful.
