    THE OCCULT AS IT IS.

    This is a strange book! It strikes a balance between belief and agnosticism where the Occult is concerned. But it does it in an odd, unsettling way. The ambiguity surrounding the subject and its practitioners is well brought out. If you want a nuanced approach, this may be a very good start. The book was first published in 1928, but Charles W. Olliver makes a prescient remark about transmuting a base metal into gold. It can now be done by the PARTICLE ACCELERATOR, by increasing the number of neutrons to those of gold. (Far too expensive.) Olliver talks about the modern theories about the constitution of matter, correctly pointing out that the Alchemists' idea was right, if their chemical method was wrong.
