    Nice light lens

This is a nice lens in general. It seems to be a little lacking in contrast but not too noticeable. The only other slight negative is that the indicated focal length doesn't agree exactly with other lenses. Otherwise, it's very light and a pretty good performer for an all in one lens

  • Most critical review

    Low quality, slow focus

Second hand item, very slow focus, especially inside can not focus for long time. Pictures not sharp, but I even expected to be. I had before same lens, it was better working condition, this one very poor

  • Light, compact, quick and sharp if a bit soft at the extremes.

Selling for around £160 new in the UK, this is an ideal walking around lens for the amateur or enthusiast, but lacks the pin-sharpness at the extremes of its focal length for the professional. At 14ozs (405gms)and 4.25" (10.5cms) long, you won't particularly notice this lens in your bag, and it's light to handle once mounted. The focussing motor is quick and, whilst not silent, not particularly noisy and operates well even in low light conditions. The petal hood is likewise both effective and unobtrusive in storage as it fits snugly against the lens when stored. This tends to be the lens that I leave on my camera (a Canon 20D semi-pro) on a day-to-day basis as I find that the range allows me both to shoot landscape and telephoto quickly and with some very good results (I live on Exmoor ...

  • Ideal lens when I don't want to carry the full kit.

I've had a series of Tamron lenses, both film and digital, and always had good results. The 18-200 is another example. There are some weaker focal lengths, primarily at the wide end but results in those focal lengths are acceptable if not better. This lens is the ideal "one lens" option for my purposes. The additional cost of eliminating the weak spots is nowhere near justified, in my view.

  • 1st class lens

I bought this lens as a versatile lens which it certainly is. Picture quality is 1st class at any focal length and many of the professional photographers that I know use Tamron Lenses with their top notch cameras. I would recommend this lens to anybody thinking of buying one.
