    The Martian

    The Martian is an amazing journey basically of one man stranded alone on Mars, and his fight to survive and return to earth. Matt Damon is stellar in this film and won a Golden Globe for best actor for it. He was also nominated for an Oscar, but lost out to Leonardo DiCaprio. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a good solid story line. I was totally captured by the events that the character went through, as well as those back on earth in their attempts to figure out a way to attempt a rescue. All in all it's an engaging film with lots of twists and turns.

    Not as good as the book!

    Reading the book before watching the movie was very entertaining and moving experience especially thinking of Matt Damon as Mark Watney. The movie however, seemed to miss some of the scientific and difficult exploits of Watney plus the interpersonal relationship with the rest of the crew. The movie left too many unexplained circumstances that lead to critical events. It leaves you wondering if Andy Weir reviewed the screen play and was part of the editing team before the movie was released? If the audience enjoyed the movie, you have to read the book!

    The Martian

    Overall a very good movie. The special effects really make you feel you are on Mars with Matt Damon. The only negative I found is that the movie tends to slow down in the middle. Matt Damon is stranded on Mars and the clock is ticking ( all be it a clock that goes on for years). In its own way kind of like Tom Hanks in Castaway. Stranded, alone with the clock ticking. Will he make it or die trying in his solitude. Of course Matt Damon connects with earth and there is all the drama taking place on Earth to rescue him; with Castaway it was just Hanks with that volley ball !

    Run, don't walk to watch this movie!

    So I bid on several copies and now have watched this movie 6 times in the past month! Yes, it is fabulous! Matt Damon is hilarious and a believable character in this film. I am giving the extra copies to two of our friends, who we ran into at lunch, after watching the film the first time who also loved it--we talked about it extensively! Yes, I won this movie 3 of the 6 times i bid!

    If you like Matt Damon...

    Matt Damon is the main character and as such is on screen 95% of the time. After being presumed dead in a fierce Martian sandstorm, Mat Damon is left behind by his fellow crew mates. This is the story of how he survived, how he was able to contact and communicate with NASA. I give this movie 5 STARS, and that doesn't happen very often. Buy it, rent it - enjoy.
