Kirby Super Star Ultra is a remake of the original game on SNES ( which was known as Kirby's Fun Pak in the UK). And as a remake, it knocks it right out of the park. This is the definitive way of playing Kirby Super Star, as you'll soon find out. The amount of improvements, upgrades and additions in this game will ensure you will never want to go back to the original. For example... The controls are more responsive and precise, making every mistake and success your own. No longer will you constantly lose the third round of the Gourmet Race to Deedeedee every time. Hitboxes are more accurate and easier to read, so you'll no longer take damage from attacks that were clearly nowhere near you, or try to jump up through a thin-platform but accidentally get caught against the corner of a roof (like during the Lobster chase sequence in the original). The screen is wider than the original, ensuring you won't bump into enemies that are barely off-screen. I took nowhere near as much damage in Ultra as I did in the original. Cutscenes have been revamped in 3D, and while I miss how some of the originals looked, this is an overall improvement, giving more charm and character to these scenes. The original Kirby Super Star reused the same generic boss-encounter music for most fights, but in Ultra, there are noteworthy exceptions. For example, Dynablade and Wham Bam Rock now have their own battle themes, helping them stand apart from all other fights and making them more memorable than they originally were. The Great Cave Offensive, which was already my favourite mode in the original (as I love exploring and collecting treasure in most platformers) is better than ever before, thanks to all the afformentioned quality of life improvements, but it doesn't end there. You can now keep track of which treasure you've collected in what area, and when you collect all the treasure available in an area, it will be marked with a golden star. You can also see which area you're in, ensuring you won't lose your sense of direction. Similarly, Milky Way Wishes is now a more enjoyable and fair challenge to complete thanks to each stage showing you how many Copy Essences are in a level and which ones you've collected. The extra modes are also a welcome addition that make completing this game worth every second. Revenge of the King is a harder version of Spring Breeze with some remixed level design, bossfights, new enemies, Kabula as a returning boss from the first game, and the debut of Deedeedee's powered-up form, Masked Deedeedee, making for an epic showdown between Kirby and his old frienemy. Meta Knightmare Ultra is a returning mode from Nightmare in Dreamland, where you get to play through the entire game as Metaknight, this time with additional powers he can use once you collect enough orbs. This mode would see the debut of the infamously challenging boss Galactaknight, who would make appearances in future Kirby games from here on. In addition to the two minigames from the original, an extra three are included that use the touchscreen controls. And lastly, in addition to The Arena mode, a gauntlet where you must face off against all bosses in the game without dying, there now exists the True Arena, where you face the hardest available version of each boss, and the Sol form of the final boss. This, and Sol bosses would be carried over to every main Kirby game after this. In conclusion, this is an absolute must for any Kirby fan, even if you played the original Super Star. The quality of life improvements over the original, new additions that would later become staples in the series, and extra modes make this game an easy replacement for the original, and a brilliant game for new and old fans. I disagree vehemently that Super Star is the best game in the series, because from Adventure Wii onwards, we got games that raised the bar even higher and continued to build upon that game's foundation, while also taking features from the Dreamland series. Ultra, on the other hand? I could totally see this being people's favourites. It's definitely in my Top 5. My 3 favourite games (Adventure Wii, Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot) wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they were if it weren't for the features introduced in Ultra. Read full review

Has great controls, nice gameplay, memorial music and sounds from various Kirby games, and offers a lot of multiplayer content. The few problems with this game is that it would have been better with an online component to make the multiplayer more accessible and it's more easy to breeze if anyone played the first one. I bought this game because I always wanted to own Kirby Super Star in some way, but was unable to since my SNES is dying out. So unless you own the first one, this is a must buy for DS lovers (and Kirby fans if you like it that well).
This is a clasic game! just like old game boy game! but better gamplay and grafics! The levels are great and you wount find one like thisSeptember 22, 2008 - More than a decade ago, back during the transition between the Super NES and the Nintendo 64, Nintendo and HAL Laboratories released Kirby Super Star for the 16-bit gaming console. That generation gap was a big one, as Kirby fell into that hole and got lost; oh, sure, Kirby fans ate it up and it's a good bet that it sold significantly better than any third-party game on the market at the time. But let's face it: the gaming world was on the move in 1996 with new consoles and updated graphic techniques (Donkey Kong Country, anyone?), so Kirby's end-of-generation Super NES adventure seemed to hit the scene with very little fanfare or impact, regardless of its gameplay quality. Nintendo thought there was enough there to give the design a second chance: Kirby's Super Star Ultra for the Nintendo DS is pretty much a remake of the Super NES title, but don't call it a port. And because it's one of the lesser played Kirby games it'll probably feel fresh to you. If you were 16-bit gaming back in 1996 it'll probably make you wish you didn't miss the original design the first time around. Just make it all right again by noticing it in its second coming. If you've ever played a Kirby game, you'll know that the whole idea of a "traditional platformer" is thrown right out the window. Though there are certainly elements of a traditional platformer in Kirby adventures, the fact that Kirby breaks from the usual run-n-jump elements with his float-n-fly abilities changes things up quite a bit, as does his ability to suck up enemies and steal their special attacks for his own benefit. Kirby Super Star Ultra brings a lot of cool ideas to the table, some of which have been abandoned in future Kirby games in favor of streamlining and simplifying his appeal. The ability to bring an enemy in as a "friend" and have him computer controlled opens up a lot of great co-op elements including special two-character attacks. This two player mode has been carried over really well on the Nintendo DS: if you've got a second system and second copy of the game you can have your own view of the action. Without a copy of the game you can sync up your system and use it as a D-pad while looking over your buddy's shoulder.Read full review
As part of the release craze of yesterdecade, this version of Super star has been updated for the DS, It makes good use of the system it was put on and is a quality game in its own right, with many small additions to make it worth picking up the newer copy .

I got this game because I used to have a Kirby game on my old old Gameboy. So I decided I'd give Kirby a shot on my Nintendo DS. At first, it was difficult to learn which buttons did what, but once I got the hang of it, I loved the game. It keeps me entertained, it is not really hard at times, but it is not the easiest game either. The mini games on it can keep my brothers and I entertained for awhile (multi-player). The one thing I do not like about it is that to play multiplayer on the main game, the other player has to look at the DS with game card's screen to control their player. You do not have to do that with the 3 mini games though.
Itssa Kirby game, in fact -- one of the best. A remastered collection of some of the best Kirby content with a bunch of new stuffs. What's there not to love?? :DD

very good! I was a bit worried about the quality, but when it was received it worked perfectly and didn’t lag or glitch on my 3DS. The cartridge sometimes gets stuck and won’t go in the DS but that may just be an issue with my console, not the cartridge. Works great, highly recommend.

This is another fantastic game man! I swear it goes with my collection of kirby games So far. With All the same abilities I see the way they changed kirby and his abilities -oh Man is like so cool! I even get the chance to use the powers plus fight my old enemies again. The battle with meta knight again is was fantastic and king dedede and his dramatic change when I fought him. Oh no you better not mess with the new king dedede and his new adventure and I'm not talking about spring breeze. It is so nice to relive the adventure again after all these years. I mean super star ultra has lots of new music. The abilites kirby use match the ones in his cartoon. It was so awesome and fun to use them again. It is also another chapter of kirby and his adventure after his cartoon ended so thats more important- LIVE ON KIRBY!!!! Thanks man.Read full review

Kirby Super Star Ultra is a remake of Kirby Super Star for the SNES. This game was one of my favorites growing up and remains in my list of best games ever. Kirby may seem pink and cute, but this is the game that lets you know that he can and will kick your ass. Although some can smoke though this game in a few hours, playing it at leisure can provide hours of nonstop fun. The addition of more games as you complete the beginning ones helps to ease you into the Kirby universe until you're ready to kick ass at the Arena, or a new feature to this game, the REAL Arena. The multiplayer minigames don't do this game any justice, but I guess one could say they are better then no multiplayer minigames at all; however, the co-op story mode is some of the most fun you'll have with a friend! With so many characters for the second player to choose from the fact that he doesn't get to be Kirby isn't a big deal, some even prefer to be the second player. All in all this game is awesome. Buy it and fall in love with Kirby just like I have.Read full review
