I contacted seller, who said that sometimes happens, as the keyboards are steam cleaned (imho not good practice for keyboards!) - just try it again after a few days. No better, so I returned one for a refund - but couldn't find any way in the returns process to indicate I was returning 1 of 2! eBay refunded full price; seller accepted loss; I gave value of one to charity.

The keyboard's condition was exactly as described otherwise. Returned the item with free postage and received an immediate refund.
