It certainly works - I burnt some chips & set it off! There was a problem to begin with as the instructions said remove the holding pins so I had to ring the suppliers & found they don't use them now .To open it you need a screw driver & that also applies on the ceiiling so should the battery run out it isn't going to be easy to access it - my last one had a drawer you just pullled out & changed the battery - which was a much better system.

Earlier BRK alarms were good but these had to be separated from the base plate using a flat blade screwdriver that felt it was breaking the unit because it is flimsey and will have to be done each battery change and only 3 of the 4 in the pack worked as it should, the last one wouldn't interlink. I shall look at a different make next time i need some.

The product is fine however there are a couple of points to note. 1. The expiry date is only 5 years hence rather than the normal 10 years as these were manufactured in 2015 with a 10 year life.. 2.The instructions are incorrect and poor is saying how to remove the unit from the base. It says tro twist the unit but this is for an older model. To remove the unit it is necessary to use a large flat screwdriver to move the two plastic clips outwards by inserting the screwdriver blade into the recess in the catch and bending the screwdriver outwards. It frees the unit quite easily then. The fact that the unit is easily removed from the base will be a godsend when the time for replacement comes. I found wiring up to be theoretically simple but as the wire connectors are situated in a slightly different location to my previous model the wires would not reach requiring some change to the baseplate to allow them to reach the connecting block. Not a major problem however as it will not need to be done again as the base will remain the same when a replacement is fitted. There have also been several reports of the alarm activating unnecessarily. This has occured to me on only one occasion in the couple of weeks since installation so I will be monitoring this in the coming weeks.Read full review

It is hard wired with battery backup, firstly the instructions say the base splits from the unit by twisting, no it does not, you have 2 retaining lugs that you move outwards, you cannot twist it as the connector block needs to be precisely lined up and snapped into place, next the wiring descriptions relate to colours of wiring which are not part of this detector, this means you have to ignore the instructions to install it. That said it works and can be used to tie in with other detectors in a property. It is cheap compared to others but i do not think it is a DIY install if people just want to replace an existing one.

My 10 year old smoke alarms were starting to make the dreaded beep noise and with my models that were fitted with non changeable batteries I had to replace the whole smoke alarm. I searched for similar and came across these which I just simply plugged in and in the future I’ll be able to change just the batteries. So if you can just plug n go you’ll be lucky too. Sod that wiring malarkey :)
