Deeper: just as thrilling as Tunnels (book 1) which I had to teach to secondary pupils a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the novel so much that this second book of the set was purchased for me to read at my own leisure. And now I NEED to read book 3 to find out what is actually in the centre of the earth, which rival culture gains dominance over the other, do father and son ever find each other in the maze of underground tunnels and will they ever return to top soil? Coming from a Yorkshire mining community adds an extra edge of irony to the reading of this novel, and having a keen interest and a degree in archaeology I love all the 'extinct' plants and creatures Will and his father discover. History, family fall outs, and sibling rivalry; struggling to survive against seemingly impossible odds and extreme conditions, death and tragedy, there are so many layers to these stories I'm sure everyone will find a a favourite theme. Written for kids but I'm 51 and I loved it too!Read full review
