Duran Duran - love or loathe them, they deliver exciting NEW material every time and Red Carpet Massacre is no exception and forges a new fork in the river on continent Duran. Yes, the Duran sound has evolved again - SO WHAT! That's what every band should be trying to do with their 'NEW' material and what Duran have always done, they always bring a new guest to the table - how refreshing! The only slight gripe here is that the opening 6 tunes are that groovy and catchy that the 'B-side' (remember that Vinyl lovers) does not always live up to those initial tracks, particularly THE VALLEY, a dynamic-groovy-dare I say it-ANTHEM, which in my opinion should open every Duran concert from here on in. These guys can truly be considered as pioneers and I believe that the fact that they constantly get slated by the press (UK especially) only goes to confirm what I already know, they're always gonna deliver innovative NEW music, some people don't like it - TOUGH!! Many, many do!!Read full review
I will keep this very straightforward. If you are too disappointed that Andy left and are not a fan of Justin Timberlake (as indeed I am not) you could be put off buying one of the best Duran albums of all. Okay, it is slightly over produced and there are too many synthesized beats despite having a highly talented drummer in the band and perhaps not enough guitar, although the explanation for this is slightly more obvious. However, I would encourage you to buy this album, put it on repeat play and after 2 - 3 listens you will discover what I have - this is a cracking album. In my opinion Falling Down is the second last track that should have been released (Skin Divers is my least favourite album track). Be brave and release Valley, Red Carpet Massacre or Zoom In
I HAVE BEEN A DURAN FAN SINCE I CAN'T REMEMBER. I LOVE THEIR EARLY STUFF THE MOST, ASTRONAUT WAS GREAT TOO. BUT- THIS ALBUM IS JUST THE BEST ALBUM BY THIS BAND. IT TOTALLY SURPRISED ME WITH THE LACK OF GUITARS ON THE RECORD, BUT THE SONGS AND MELODIES ARE JUST CLASSIC DURAN DURAN. WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT THE ALBUM IS JOHN TAYLOR'S BASSLINE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ALBUM, HE HAS ALWAYS PLAYE AND WRIITEN FANTASIC BASSLINES BUT ON THIS CD HE EXCEEDS ANYTHING HE HAS EVER DONE BEFORE. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS RECORD. I HAVEN'T REALLY GOT A FAVOURITE BECAUSE ALL THE TRACKS ARE SO CATCHY. THERE ARE GLIMPSES OF HOUSE, DANCE, R N B, BALLADS, POP AND EVERYTHING ELSE YOU COULD HOPE FOR. I JUST FEEL A LITTLE SORRY FOR ROGER TAYLOR: AS A DRUMMER MYSELF, I WOULDN'T BE TOO EXCITED ABOUT PLAYING MOST OF THE TRACKS LIVE. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ALBUM !!! As I have always been a Duran Duran fan and own every album, I am naturally interested when they release a new record. Their comeback album 'Astronaut' is excellent and I expected this follow-up to be really good as well. I'm afraid in my opinion, it falls below their usual standards. They teamed up with Timberlake/Timbaland to produce the album, but there is a lack of strong tracks on here, no real drum or guitar sound. The single 'Falling Down' didn't even make the top 40 charts. Duran Duran are capable of making great records and I would advise them to return to the style of 'Astronaut'.
