As a fan of Jack Penate i bought this album based on the fact the singles he's released were great from his debut release 'Second, Minute or Hour' limited to just 1000 7" singles complete with unique numbered hand initialed polaroid picture to his latest release 'Have I Been A Fool', none of the singles have disappointed and neither has the album it's one of the very very few albums i have purchased where i can listen from start to finish and not want to skip a single track there are many influences on the album from Grime to Reggae to Soul all of which Jack carries off with total ease My personal highlights from Matinée are the singles 'Spit At Stars' & 'Second Minute Or Hour' plus 'Got My Favourite' where Jack sings about his favourite things 'Run For Your Life' the chorus mentioning about beer norman roman ages ect and 'When We Die' this song sounds very chilling, haunting and echo-y but there is a distinct beauty to it Jack penate manages to perfectly mix energetic bouncy danceable songs with mellow 'romantic' songs that sound like they are from the heart you could not get an album more perfect than thisRead full review
