I once bought a yellow makala dolphin ukulele and it was brilliant, it stayed in tune longer than my more expensive ukuleles. My girlfriend favoured it so I bought this for her and the quality has gone down as the price has gone up. I would recommend going elsewhere. For the price you could get a lot better quality.

I bought a Makala Dolphin Uke a couple of years ago when I took up ukulele - it was recommended as a good beginner's instrument by a music shop owner in Dunedin (in NZ - long story!) and he was right: it is easy to play, easy to tune (and keep in tune due to its quality Aquila strings), has a reasonably good tone, and is very robust. My younger granddaughters always try playing it when they visit and it has stood up to all the abuse very well. This year we decided that Santa should bring them their own ukes so that they can learn to play properly, and I didn't hesitate to order two Dolphins for them: they are not the cheapest beginners' ukes around, but with their ruggedness and ease of maintenance, not to mention the exciting range of colours, it was a no-brainer.
