The further we go the less you get
I have used Microsoft keyboards for years,
as you work you get used to hit this button to check your mail, hit the other button to open the browser, hit a button to quieten the music, you can now hit the buttons without reading the little words next to the buttons, thy are little victories that you earn with time, as you use your machine, helped by a keyboard that becomes easier and easier to use.
Ok on the keyboard next to it, still Microsoft, still very similar keyboard but the buttons aren't exactly in the same place, the home button is the middle one, not more the one further to the left, the calculator is now the one in the middle and not the one on further left and similar things which I put down to engineers at Microsoft being frustrated at something, and needing to unload their frustration on something, somebody.
But it's ok, most people are frustrated nowadays, it's the plague of the century.. so long as they don't blow me to smithereens I guess I am lucky.
So..one of my keyboards has given up its struggle, the space bar never really worked right and now the L won't work, Ebay seems to have what seems to me something similar but without the focus slide in the middle and with batteries instead of a wire.. the price seems ok and i make it mine.
Ok its owner messes up with the little usb dongle and sends me another one, the keyboard doesn't want to workk.. ages later when threatening to ask for my money back he sends me the right dongle and the keyboard finally works!!
Wow, never imagined it would be so difficult to get a keyboard to work.. yeah we know the dongle was NOT the right dongle!! ahhh ok..
I use my own mice on all my computers so I don't need the mice that comes with this keyboard, and it can't be used with any other machine, because it only works with the one dongle.. and the dongle begins to rub me the wrong way.. I don't like WASTE you see and now I have a worthless mouse inside a drawer.. not that I would have used it but maybe I could have given it it my mother?? It 's my mouse. Ok never mind.
Ok so we are used to Microsoft idiosyncrasies, but their keyboards have many positives and so i have used about 12 of them over the years and I have never had one that did not have a little led to tell me about the Caps Lock being on.
I use Caps Lock all the time, I go back and fro to have it on and off and now the only way I have to know is to type? It should be against the law not to include this little light. Ok never mind I still have the old Microsoft 4000 wired keyboard on as well as the sculpt so I can see THAT light.
Having to have another keyboard plugged in made me pick it up and put the sculpt down.. this is because of all the buttons in the right place, actually the sculpt totally misses them, but the one thing that did it for me was the FN button.. it isn't a button any more, you must lose your typing position to... slide the FN button?
I think there's a conspiracy by Microsoft to kill my productivity, they did it with Win 7 they totally are doing it with Win 10 and this keyboard is just... I can't really talk about this keyboard because I haven't really used it and for me to come up with an opinion on something I must spend time on it and that, on this thing I did not do.
Yes, it seems to have keys that require less action seeing as they are not mechanical, they are of th 'mobile phone" variety so to speak, and way more responsive than the usual keys we are used to type on, but it definitely requires a learning curve and there's a billion missing buttons so for now it is gathering dust, unused and unloved.
Some other time, maybe.
