I bought this F80 body solely to make some film comparisons with my Nikon D800. As an analogue photographer of several decades, having now used the D800 for five years, my experience is that in practical use, it exceeds the quality og medium format film and approaches or matches 5x4 film, both in terms of details and dynamic range. With practical use, I mean the type of pictures photographers make in the real world, not unusable tests made on super slow film for which there is little or no real use. But I wanted a camera body to do some 35mm comparisons, partly because I have limited experience with 35 mm film and partly to make the comparisons with the same lenses I use for digital. I was tempted to buy an F100, which seems to be the epitome of Nikon analog bodies, but decided that this F80 was more than sufficient for my limited purposes. Being all plastic, it feels light, but sturdy enough, and it’s surprisingly quiet. It’s not a F4 or F5 bulletproof brick, but I knew that when I bought it and I don’t need that.Read full review

First off, the 'sticky back' syndrome afflicting so many 1990's Nikon SLRs is easily cured with a vigorous rub down with some methylated spirits ( about 2 quid for a small bottle ) on a dry cloth. It dissolves the sticky goo without damaging the camera, and any excess evaporates, magic. 'Sticky back' cameras tend to sell for less, so use this to your advantage, get some meth's, camera comes up like new, sorted. The F80 could easily be mistaken for a modern Nikon DSLR, such was the brilliance of the ergonomic design, which Nikon have stuck with ever since. It was barely in existence when shortly afterwards DIGITAL took over, so this was effectively one of their the last of their consumer grade SLRs. It looks like little brother/sister to the semi-professional F100 which is probably my favourite SLR ever. If you still shoot film, don't want the extra pro features of a F100 or F6 then the F80 is currently a total bargain. Great design, quality build, real easy to use in manual or auto, and just feels really nicely balanced in your hands. Oh yeh, and most importantly takes ace shots with a massive array of Nikon F mount lens going back to early 70s ( particularly the AF-D range it was designed for )Read full review

why I bought this film camera. While most people are going digital. Well at the price I saw on the Ebay was £25 pounds. From a man in Glasgo. Could I go wrong. It was very packaged and it works great. I alread own this camera body .But when it came out it cost me £300 POUNDS. So Im very happy with this camera, And also with my other three film cameras. And my three Digital nikons plus my five nikon len'es And I still love useing slide film. With this nikon F80. FROM. TRUEBLUE 04 MARTIN
the image quality is down to the photographer i have not had a reel processed yet living in hope, i think the the battery cover could have been a bit more robust as it has to carry the full weight of the two batteries not strong enough in my opinion. rm
