Its got a great sound and the old ones come with a great speaker. Tried others and due to the mid range sound of this amp come back to the original speak. Responds well to different guitars but some over power the input and a lower gain tube is a good idea in the V1 spot if you have a high output gtar. Tone controls could do a better job, mid is really upper mid/highs and high is more like a presence control. I will be modding the tone stack soon. Gain channel is pretty nice, overall this is more tube sound that a hotrod deluxe and smaller cab. PIA to work on but so is the HRD

Doesn't have a warm tube amp tone. The tone is too bright. While some iNet owner reviews have described it as ice-picky sounding I wouldn't go that far. But too bright and sharp for me. The tone controls have little affect on the brightness.

I have been a gigging guitarist for over 50 years and owned a lot of amps, but I keep going back to my good old Peavey Classic 30. It has great tone, enough power for almost any venue and is not too heavy. i prefer the old style cabinet, but the new Peaveys are great too. And a great value for the money.

This amp delivers a lot of power. I don't play it above 2 on the clean channel or above 3.5 on the "dirty" channel when playing in my bedroom. I can't imagine going to 12! The dirty channel gives a really wide range of distortion levels that sound like classic distortion rather than pedal-generated gain. It's possible to really fine-tune the level of distortion. The clean channel gives a crystal clear warm sound that is phenomenal. My Peavey 15W does a better job of replicating certain classic rock song sounds, but that may be because I haven't spent enough time trying to get the amp EQ and guitar pickup settings dialed in. I'd seen a video on YouTube in which the reviewer remarked about the metal area around the controls getting too hot to touch. It does get warm, but I haven't found it to be too hot to touch. Then again, I haven't driven it very hard. All in all, I love it.Read full review
I can't believe how good this little amp head sounds. I own over 30 classic and modern tube guitar amps (Vox, Fender, Marshall, Mesa, Blankenship, Ampeg, Supro, etc.) and this little amp hangs right in there with them. I had my tech switch out the 16 ohm tap on the output tranny for the 8 ohm so it would be more compatible with more of my speaker cabs. I also had him put in new JJ EL84 power tubes. Peavey thought of everything with these amps. There are wire tube retainers to cut down on the tube rattle that can occur with these amps. There's even two hooks on the back that let you wrap up your power cord. The short reverb tank sounds just fine for all but the most reverb drenched surf sounds. Unbelievable sound from an inexpensive little printed circuit board amp. For 285.00 used it just can't be beat.Read full review
