Simply plug them in, add the ethernet leads and in seconds it is ready to use if they are a paired set. It is almost as good as using an ethernet lead but there can be about a 20+% speed loss depending where the units are plugged in. I had 80+% speed loss using wifi which is hopeless when gaming. Also wifi would dip out often from Sky but going hard wired does away with this problem mostly; I had hoped the TP link would emulate hard wired speed performance but it does fall ever so slightly short. Even so I have to give a five star rating. Nonetheless having 75% performance is a great improvement and for a matter of £13 well worth the money. I am not sure but if you have more than one on the same circuit you might find each gets a pro rata speed.

Takes signal from router, on ground floor, to the opposite end on top floor of a 4 storey town house. This has been an excellent solution for us.
