Second full lp from Alpha who are on Massive Attacks own label Melankolic when doing this. It comes close to the quality of the first album with more of a classics feel than the dubby on/off beats of Come From Heaven(1st). This is delicate music made with a lot of care. Well worth a listen and can be got at a good price.
A prime example of the trippy sound that Alpha seem to consistently put out. That sounds like a negative thing but it definitely is not. Obviously not one for those who listen almost exclusively to the top 40 as this is no closer to 'Pop' than Vivaldi or Schubert - not that this even borders on being 'Classical'. This really is a difficult sound to describe and of course a good thing to do would be to have a listen on youtube before buying the album but if you do this and think "hm, nothing special, but not bad", don't be put off. It only grows on you. Not only that but listening to just one or two tracks really isn't what the album is about - I think, rather unintentionally, the flow from beginning to end is what makes this a worthy purchase. At the same time, I certainly wouldn't recommend paying anything too heafty for it, because let's face it, you simply don't need to. Certainly, buy from eBay, not HMV or any other likewise rip-off merchant.Read full review
