Good points are; Sharp and contrasty Good flare control Compact 58mm filter size Easy to use controls Quick focusing nice balance on my camera (Olympus E500 & E510) Metal mount, not plastic Bad points are; no fstop ring for manual control tulip lense hood would have been better A very reasonable even preferred alternative to the Nikon/Canon kit lenses. You get great image quality for not a lot of money.
This lens is great! I bought it for my Canon EOS 10D, and I can get pretty sharp pictures with minimal CA, purple fringing, or barrel distortion. The lens body feels rugged overall, the mount is very sturdy, and the zoom and focus rings turn smoothly. Then there are the downsides, which are more or less common among lenses at this price. First, the maximum aperture is only f/3.5 at the wide end and f/5.6 at the telephoto end, so it is not a fast lens (and images are a bit soft at this aperture too). Second, the focusing motor in mine sounds a bit like a pig squealing. Third and last, you won't get the same image quality from this lens as you would with a more expensive lens. In summary, this is a great lens for the price. It is a good replacement for the 18-55mm kit lens that comes with some Canon DLSR's, and it might even be better than the kit lens. Plus this one will even fit on older Canon bodies that only have the EF lens mount! I highly recommend this lens if you can't afford a better, more-expensive one.Read full review
Like: Great value for the dollar. Better build quality than the Canon 18-55. Metal mount versus plastic on the Canon Images are decent quality Cons: Slow focus motor, but what do you want for under $100? Feels a little light weight Decided to purchase for my Canon 20d that I purchased off Ebay as a body only purchase. So it will be a good solution until I can afford a higher quality Canon lens.
Wow, what a great lens! A bit noisy but overall really great. Good color, fast focus and solid build. At around less than $80.00 it's a great deal. A lot better than the standard Canon EF-S lenses in the same price range.
Good, light-weight lens. takes sharp pics. a little noisy whe focussing; not as fast as a USM lens that I have from Canon. gives good wide-angle shots for a the smaller sensors that most of us have.
