Although acoustic is not justified in this compilation, I gave an excellent rating for 3 reasons: 1) It is one of the most interesting selections of '80s alternative gems, 2) the pace is more than satisfying, and 3) it gives a wider scope to the music terms 'acoustic' and 'alternative/indie'. Even the singles which are from the late '70s and early '90s do fit perfectly by showing how alternative music evolved from the mid-'70s to the late '80s and early '90s. Thumbs up!!!!

Claiming to be a collection of 80's acoustic material - this disappoints. Perhaps its me , but I thought 'acoustic' suggests a lack of electrical instruments, stripped back to basics approach? A crude definition perhaps but even allowing for artistic licence how do 'Stranglers', 'Soft Cell' or 'Teardrop Explodes' qualify? The versions are the usual arrangements, they're not Unplugged versions, etc and it seems to be a complete mish-mash of songs. I suppose its redeaming feature is the inclusion of one or two rather obscure songs (Cocteau Twins, Mark Stevenson) but the compilers have 'missed the boat' in my opinion.
