beautiful lens for photographic pleasure. there is absolutely no distortion to be found in the lens, it has a wonderful focusing feel, I lucked out and got one with no focus play what so ever, but a vast majority of these lenses have a tiny bit of focus play. It's sharp from 2.0 and gets razor sharp from 3.5-8.0 has the best flare resistance that I've ever dealt with in a lens, so shooting into the sun becomes a total joy. Best of all it has that magical Zeiss 3-d quality in spades. the reason I rated it 4/5 is because of their quality control issues regarding the focus play and the relatively big size for the lens.
I regret not to buy this lens earlier! Now I need to pay more to have one (because of inflation) and missing many chance to use it in trips. For optical quality of this lens, simply you can't beat it for this focal lenght at aperature F2.8 or smaller. IMO, Leica summicron 35mm ASPH can only win at wide open; while Zeiss 35mm Biogon win at all other aperatures and has better distortion control and colors. For construction and handling, I vote Leica this time, because of smaller size and convenient tabbed focusing ring. I do not think Leica has better construction than Zeiss, but I do feel that the construction of Chrome version ZM lenses is a bit better than Black version although I like black color more. I highly recommend this lens to all M-mount users. Cheer!!
