Claims to be "easy setup". Its easy to plug in, but then it needs you to register and it needs a credit card number before it will even let you use the box, then most of the main channels (all 4, itv hub, uktv play) all need you to register before you can watch anything... Far from easy to use, I'm computer literate and it took me over 2 hours to get it all set up and register with all the channels.
The hardware is pretty good, but has one glaring issue, It only supports 2.4 gig WiFi, there is no 5g support.
These were apparently first produced in 2016, which is the excuse for them not having 5g wifi.
The hardware could of been easily modified/improved at factory level to include 5g, so I don't know why Roku failed to do it... Its a glaring oversite!
There are thousands of channels you can add, though many of them are junk and just dont work properly, but if you rifle through the trash there are some good channels to be found.
In conclusion: If they added 5g wifi and removed the need to input a credit card while registering the box it would get a higher rating.
The fact there is so many non working trash channels also reduces the rating.
But, overall a very nice responsive box, which gives good picture and sound quality.
The remote control works a heck of s lot better than the older Roku boxesRead full review
In terms of streaming it works well. I bought it for Now TV and that runs perfectly and there are loads of other services I haven't tried.
However it only seems to be able to detect the 2G WiFi signal not5G which may be a limit for some. The main gripe is that it interferes with the normal TV aerial signal, so I have to power it off if I watch any normal non streamed channel
Great piece of kit. Good value for money. Very easy to set up. I didn’t need to read the instructions ! I bought it to use netflix on my TV. The remote is a nice size and the button layout works well. The streaming unit is quite small and discrete and wires long enough to reach the usb and HDMi slots on the TV.
By buying a Roku for myself in the living room and my kids in their bedrooms I have totally stopped any squabbling over the telly and saved a fortune in cable fees. You need to pay subscriptions on Netflix, Disney etc but all added together comes nowhere near what I was paying for virgin media...bloody brilliant! So easy to install, excepts all the channels we want and is compatible with amazon, Netflix, dismey+, now Tv, apple, acorn, rakuten...etc etc etc. Love Roku, highly recommended. The only thing was that when you’re setting them up putting all your emails and passwords in is time consuming, especially when you buy four, but it only has to be done once and off you go...Wonderful!
This Roku box is lovely nice size easy to set up easy to use has a lot more channels than I thought it would brilliant my only minus is that you can find it cheaper in the shop
