Walt Disney took a big chance with this ambitious anthology of animated fantasies. First, he set them to lengthy classical music pieces, and then he boldly experimented with different forms of animation, sometimes jettisoning any sort of narrative altogether. The result is a sometimes mesmerizing, sometimes hilarious, sometimes frightening, but always beautiful moviegoing experience. A box-office failure when first released, it's now considered a timeless treasure. Highlights include: Mickey Mouse in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," the leaping hippos and alligators in "Dance of the Hours," the rise and fall of the dinosaurs set to Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring," the dancing mushrooms of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," and Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain," with its fearsome winged demon raging at the heavens. One of Walt Disney's ambitions for the project was to rerelease the film periodically over the years with new sequences. Though the film was regularly rereleased, it wasn't until 1999 that his intention was finally realized with the premiere of FANTASIA 2000, a lavish follow-up that included a digitally restored "Sorcerer's Apprentice" and a host of new material. Beautiful film, great picture and sound quality.
Beautiful film, great picture and sound quality. It is the full film uncut. There is an informative commentary that isn't on the DVD box set. The disk takes a long time to load. When you pause for study, there is an irritating logo in the lower left of the screen telling what segment and it's composer. I don't need it at all and even if I did, it should go away after a few seconds.

it's 2hrs 21 mins but the 1st hr. or so it's kinda boring. that's the to say/mention because it's a masterpiece and very inventive, great imagination, so far ahead of it time (considering it was made in 1941, I think)..the thing is.. no matter have many times you remaster the bluray..it's just ok. one things for sure.. fantasia 2000 sux, hands down, they messed up, they should of re created the original artwork, pixar-style, maybe they will 3d it for fantasia 2020.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

"A film that was way ahead of its time"
This film is not only a bending of classical music with animation that was way ahead of it's time, but it also had a surround sound soundtrack when shown in the theaters. Two of my favorites were the "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Night on Bald Mountain," which were both brilliantly brought to life by Disney's animators and Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Also included is a tour of the Disney Museum. With the release of the film on BluRay both the sound and image truly enhance the viewing and listening experiience.
