The feature film is based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen. A village, a garden, a castle, a robber forest and especially the Lapland landscape covered in snow and ice form the impressive backdrop to this story about a great friendship. Gerda and Kay have been friends for as long as they can remember. One day, the beautiful but coldly calculating Snow Queen discovers that Kay can use a glass house to protect Gerda's beloved roses from frost. She also wants the same for her ice palace in the far north. When Kay taunts her, she sends out magical shards that change his nature. And suddenly Kay disappeared. Gerda alone believes that he is still alive and goes looking for him. On her long, arduous journey across landscapes and seasons, she resists many temptations.
