A cloudburst of effervescence aided by the familiar vocal choruses almost entirely instantaneous in its appeal whilst concealing depth on repeated playings. This I feel categorically ridicules the stateside bemoaning of melancholy underpinned by jealousy no doubt. Amongst the number of highs my personal choice is "Don't Let It Break Your Heart" a track which was unfortunately missing from their playlist at The O2 last night. This collection has the potential to connect to a wider audience yet suspect alienate fans from the early years of "Parachutes" and "A Rush Of Blood To The Head." Their intention to restrict the playlist of this album is however a mistake as existing tracks could have matured further complimented by tracks left in the vaults of the recording studio. The tracks used as singles to date are audience pleasers as their distinctive sound evokes a natural progression from 2008. The question is, is this the last studio outing?Read full review
First of all, I am a die hard Coldplay fan, and have been for many years. So don't think that my low rating is just me being ignorant, it's the truth. I started listening to coldplay back in 2006. When Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends came out, it was their best work yet. The album was amazing, based on the french revolution, and making the hit song known all around the world "Viva La Vida". Also, Lovers in Japan, another one of their hits, is a song that talks about hope, to keep moving forward, and seeing people moving on. This is my favorite album to date. The new album "Mylo Xyloto" was a huge disappointment. It took them over 3 years to do it, and it sucks. With an exception of 2 songs on the album, the last 2 tracks. Coldplay have very much lost their sound. This new album is more pop then actual music, and more computer generated sounds, then actual instruments. I had built up so much hope for the new album, and it was destroyed when I heard it. I don't get why the song "charlie brown" was such a hit. It's a stupid song, with even a silly title. Princess of china is the worst song the band has done to date. Mainly because of Rhianna; she destroyed the song. This is why the band has become more "Pop" then actual music. In the song princess of china, rhianna sings more then Chris does! It is such a horrible song, with crappy noises. There are 3 tiny little tracks between the songs, which are just pretty much computer generated sounds of tracks already on the album. The band played more then half the album live for months, before the album even came out! There was no surprise, and that's what really killed the album. We all knew what the album was going to sound like. In my opinion, don't waste your money on the album, unless you like pop music or rap. I no longer have any hope for the band.Read full review
I think this is a fine CD and has a tremendous amount of variety of style which was a good breakthrough for Coldplay. Rush of Blood to the Head, X&Y, and Parachutes are better because they lack the occasional annoying song that you just must forward past as happens on some other Coldplay CD's. If you are new to Coldplay, I would recommend Rush of Blood to the Head or X&Y. If you choose this CD you'll love some songs, feel ok about others, but probably have several that will start annoying you after a short time so that you'll want to forward through them. Still, no Coldplay collection would be complete without Mylo Xyloto.
Pretty good CD/Album, but not Coldplay's best.
