A captivating 7 decade tour of the post war French cultural and political landscape
I originally saw the English language theatrical adaptation of this book and was inspired to read the original work. Nobel prize-winning author Annie Erneaux's autobiographical reflections about French life, politics and culture over the backdrop of post-war France, the May 68 social uprisings and many other significant political and social events over a 7-decade period are utterly captivating. A must-read for anyone interested in the social and political history of 20th-century France. Highly recommended.
A fascinating memoir. Had I realised before ordering it that it had been used as a study text, I might have chosen another copy, without annotations, but this was probably overlooked by me in the description. The marginal notes and underlinings were a bit distracting, but didn't spoil the overall experience.
