This device is rated at 5 amps max. current. However, in practice, it is almost impossible to obtain that figure with a typical Vin since the internal heat dissipation will be excessive (even with a large heat-sink) and the device will go into 'self-protect' mode. (A TO-3 style can would have helped somewhat). Do the arithmetic: for 5 amps out, the max. Vin is about 8v. So the corresponding Vout will be about 5v. max. You want a higher Vout? Can't be done. In conclusion, the manufacturer's spec.of 5 amp. is unreasonably optimistic,. This device was, therefore, unsuitable for my application.
