I would advise any purchaser of this unit to upgrade the batteries to ones with a higher capacity. I use 2,500mah for longer usage. The supplied batteries give about one day's use on standby. Not much bad to say about this radio, sensitivity is not as good as some other dual-band Baofeng radios, available, but I still managed to hear the Milford Haven Coastguard, 172 miles away from home in Somerset, albeit it with scratchy reception. My Baofeng UV-82 & UV-9R plus do better. Charging is carried out directly into the radio via a socket on the side; no charging cradle was supplied, and there is no red light or anything to indicate that the batteries are being charged, other than switching the radio on to see the battery icon on the screen. The radio was suppied with an EU two pin mains plug charger, no cradle, but it does have a converter for British sockets. The radio I got was pretuned to US frequencies, but it was no hassle to get it to the International freqs., which we use in GB. The set-up menu needs to be studied carefully via the manual, otherwise it's fiddly. The radio is a nice size, sturdily built, with a clear screen, backlit in green light. Do not drop it in the ocean and expect it to work, because it isn't waterproof. I haven't taken it to coastal area yet for proper listen, and that's all I can do because my Amateur radio licence doesn't cover Marine Freqs., though I daresay that nobody would criticise you if you used it to save lives in an emergency. Nice radio, and well worth the price asked. Read full review

A nicely finished cheap handheld but over complicated when all i want is to receive and transmit and maybe scan or dw. Eventually i sussed it but didnt find the manual easy as whatever i did didnt seem to work. You cant get into “menu” from 16, and you have to go into menu to scroll thro channels which is a pain. Not yet tried on board but at home in West Lancs i picked up Holyhead Coastguard. I have had several handhelds before which have been easier to get used to “out of the box”, but all were dearer apart from the Cobra but that has less tx power.
