Hits the Spot!
This remote feels like a quality item... hefty feel, nice to hold, positive button action. It is also wonderfully simple to use, making a really good job of making your digibox and TV feel as though they are a single device.
There is no "mode" button of the type seen on many universal remotes (meaning that you have to remember which mode you selected before say, changing channel). Thus, while there are separate TV and digibox on/off power buttons, there is no possibility of accidentally switching to the TV's own tuner. This is an absolute godsend, especially if the user is a technophobe who struggles with the notion that there is anything other than the "telly" on the receiving end of the IR signal.
It may be that the dearer models may not be as good at pulling off this trick... not least because the ability to control a third or fourth device inevitably means more buttons and more potential for confusion. I suspect that this remote's limited ambition lies at the heart of it's brilliance.
This simplicity does not mean that you lose out on any of the key functions. Having migrated from the Humax remote (Freesat), which can also be used to control the TV, I find that I no longer have to respond to cries for help resulting from the "wrong" buttons being pressed. If this is your problem, and as long as you only want to control the TV and a digibox, buy this!Read full review
