I am a professional recording engineer and musician. This is a high quality, well-built digital multitrack recorder, fairly easy to operate. The sound quality is excellent. The microphone/input channels are clean sounding with useful 3 band EQ (with sweepable mids) The track channels also have that EQ and can be patched thru various effects including guitar amp simulation, reverb, echo, pitch fx. I found that I was ready to record in a short time, following the instructions which are well written. Recording and playback are done without the aid of a computer. Connection to computer by usb allows for export of sound files or backup files of complete songs. I have an AKAI DPS24 as my main machine for production and mixdown, but I wanted a handy recorder to put in another room so I could be physically present with a live drummer. So I record drumtracks on this Tascam, then send them into the other machine via Tascam's "Audio Depot" folder. It works well. I do wish it had midi in and out like the previous model, but that's not a big deal.Read full review

I had a korg d 12 for many years and it finally went bad. It was far and away a better machine. It had many more features BUT this one cost about a fourth that the korg did. The tascam has a nice full sound It is pretty much bare bones recorder though. For the price it is a very good machine and a lotta fun. Buy it and have fun. It has very high fidelity sound recording.

I have owned and used several mixer/consoles that range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. each unit did generally the same function. M I X sound sources!!! This 24SD is a very fine product. It does lack some of features of the other mixers such as auxs, control room outs, etc. Of course don't expect to get the bells and whistles of the bigger and more expensive units. If you need to record mics and instruments-- then mix and master the tracks....this unit will do a great job. There is NO motors, hard drives. The SD card works great. This is NOT a major studio console and not designed to be...but can do what the big boards do on a smaller scale. If you are a solo musician, a song writer, or want to make great demos ----this is it. Of course, this equipment is really a tool. One really needs to know all they can to achieve excellent recordings. If you don't know how to use a unit like this...dont expect to get the best it can provide. The quality is excellent for what it does and what I need. JayRead full review

This is a great 24 bit recorder. I have been a professional for over 30 years and found only one issue with this unit, and that is the short length of the faders. It has built in effects which you can record with, or assign after you lay a track, the turn around time from back of track, to the beginning is like 0 seconds, which really saves time. The recording quality is top notch. Mix down is easy to understand quickly. Tascam really put thought into this unit. I have owned more than one, and could be talked into buying one again, if the price was correct. I would say this unit is great for a beginner, or an expert. The language and tools are easy to learn, and I have recorded more than just a few full length projects on the ones I have owned. I have been a Tascam guy since I first started with their very small, Portastudios back in the late 1980s, and I am proud to say this one is better than they advertise. Imagine a 24 track machine for less than $50,000!!! Well, this one is far less than even that.Read full review

Out of the box I was recording backing tracks then adding vocals. Still have a learning curve to master but so far the sound is great. I also purchased a Tascam 901 cd rw rack mount unit to mix down to a cd. I have used another brand and couldn’t learn all the in and outs. Then tried a 32 track on my laptop. Didn’t like it at all. This seems to be very simple so far. The you tube tutorials are quite informing too. I play multiple instruments and master of none. I also sing so this will be a lot of fun. Bobby Amateur musician

Excellent quality. Has every feature you need and more. Basic features are easy to use. Advanced features take a bit more time to master but become second nature with experience.

I bought this unit as an upgrade for our church. It has all the features and then some for recording one track to 24 tracks. Does have a slight learning curve, but not that difficult to figure out. A nice unit for the price for sure and by a company that knows Multi-tracking !

I've had competitive brands in the past, which were nice, but wanted more inputs. This alone was worth it. First, the learning curve is simple. The Assignment track feature is brilliant. The color screen is gorgeous. Built like a tank. Very addicting! This is the first recorder that I will probably take to my job - it's that nice.
