Lenovo is one of the most important computer manufacturers in the world, and has not come there by chance. Their strategy of offering products with excellent value for money along with the good reputation of their thinkpad computers for professionals has established them as one of the references. For some time now they also intend to establish themselves in the gaming computer market, and so here we have the review of the Lenovo Y700, the latest creation of the brand in gaming laptops. It has powerful hardware, consisting of an Intel i7 6th generation along with 12 GB of the new DDR4 memory. As a midrange gaming notebook, it has the Nvidia GTX 960M graphics card, but unlike many others, it comes equipped with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory. As for storage, we have a magnetic disk with a capacity of 1 TB.Read full review

I purchased this laptop with these specs: i7-6700HQ -- This quad core is a beast of a processor and usually found in top tier laptops; 2.6 GHz base speed with turbo up to 3.5 GHz, usually runs at around 3.2 GHz when plugged into a power supply; it is fast and handles MPI well; even though Kaby Lake is out, this is built on the same architecture and nearly as fast 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD -- Not all SSD's are created equal! this Samsung SSD is connected via PCIe NVMe which is much faster than SATA connected SSD's and should be considered one of the highlights of the computer. The Western Digital HDD is only 5400 rpm but as a secondary 7200 rpm isn't necessary 16 GB RAM -- DDR4 SDRAM running at 2133 MHz, you can upgrade to 32 GB but this is already plenty; I can run multiple virtual machines and still have RAM to spare 1080 FHD IPS screen -- everyone compliments my screen, it looks crisp and clean and can be viewed from any angle Nvidia GTX 950M 4GB -- If you're expecting to game on this laptop, this is the only hardware that could really use improvement. It's not bad, it's just really the lowest model you'd want if you're expecting to play games on decent setting, but this is definitely powerful enough to play any game out there on some setting. But if you want a gaming laptop, you probably want to find something with a 10 series card. If you need a laptop and will occasionally play games, this card should be more than plenty. If you're not gaming at all, this card is overkill. Other pros worth mentioning: -- the backlit keyboard has two settings, which is nice -- there are 3 USB's (2.0 x 1, 3.0 x 2) -- the JBL speakers sound way nicer than expected -- the full keyboard feels nice to type on The cons: -- portability -- the battery life isn't great and it's a little heavy (5.1 lbs), but these are to be expected considering the screen size/resolution and it's extremely powerful for a laptop. Obviously more portable than a 17" and settings can be adjusted to increase battery life (reduce brightness/resolution, cap processor speed, use integrated graphics, etc) but ultimately you're buying this for raw power and power+portability don't really mix (at least at this price point) -- the trackpad isn't terrible but not as nice as others; not annoyingly bad Overall, this laptop is a phenomenal deal. If you want these specs be prepared to pay easily $1,000 from any other manufacturer. I wish the graphics card was a 10 series but I can live with it. Delighted with this find and extremely satisfied with purchase decision (owned for 6 months now, no issues whatsoever). Highly recommend.Read full review
