Vintage Hobart Kitchen Aid A-9
These grinders were produced by the Hobart Mfg. Co. under the Kitchen Aid badging from 1938 until the late 50's. The robust build of the A-9 model grinders is somewhat expected from the design and manufacturing of the good ole days. Originally produced in Ivory with Red grind selector, Gleaming White with Black grind selector and Chrome, this kitchen appliance was born with the design and functionality to grind your coffee from fine to coarse dependent upon what method brewing the end user would utilize. By the mid 1950's colors including Island Green, Petal Pink, Sunny Yellow and Coppertone were popular sellers matching that of the colors of Kitchen Aid mixers of the era. The Burr grinders allowed you to crush your fresh coffee beans to release all the flavors and aromas the coffee was meant to cup and the Kitchen Aid A-9 coffee grinder quickly became a household must. As the quality and materials of these grinders is outstanding, many of these relics are still grinding away today some close to 80 years later. Great for the vintage kitchen or just as a stand-alone conversation piece for the avid coffee connoisseur, this grinder will grind beans with the best today's engineering has to offer. Keep an eye out for original or restored Hobart Kitchen Aid A-9 coffee grinders they have made it 80 years and are pushing for another 80! I would gladly pay $250 for a fully restored model as I feel this is more bang for my buck than what’s on the market today, ask yourself will today's grinders be around 80 years from now, probably not! Also, something to note; in the early 2000's KitchenAid then owned by whirlpool reproduced the grinder very similar to the old design. One dead giveaway of this reproduction from the old ones is the round chute compared to the original rectangular chute. As with everything today these reproductions may be newer but in my opinion get nowhere close to the construction and materials of the original. Decent Backup Coffee Mill
It's a cheaply made copy of the real thing. $30-35 value maximum. The milling settings are "sorta" the grinds you're looking for. You'll want to use it outside due to the vortex of grinds blowing around. The motor speed is out of control -way, way too fast. Of course, that works in your favor if you're in a hurry and don't mind the mess an inconsistent grind. Seems to be typical of the quality that Kitchenaid sells nowadays as they trade on the name before it collapses. Don't buy it new, and don't pay more than $40 including shipping. just the right size
its perfect I had one years ago when they first came out but it was stolen in a breakin my house, I was upset to see this gone from my collection. Its seay to use and grinds coffee exceptionally well. And its my favorite color ever I have almost all the kitchenaide breast cancer pink items and those I don't I look for.
