I used it on a rather dark stained antique cupboard which I initially sanded and ended up with a reddish tinge which I did not like. The Rustins has taken it right down to a light oak colour - it raises the grain but just needs sanding again. To keep the light colour I am finishing it with a water based polyurethane sealer.

I expect that it is an excellent product. However, for what I was trying to do (lighten a mahogany woodstain) I wouldn't recommend. I thought I'd give it a try but it didn't have any effect. It was worth a try, just not the right choice of product for that job. Good old sanding down works, though obvs much more time consuming and dusty.

From my research there are three methods to bleach dark wood (In my case mahogany), but only this type to two part chemical bleaching actually works. I will point out however, that the instructions state that it is very difficult to remove the dried crystal residue from the wood surface. I however, had to repeat the bleaching process three times to get dark mahogany to go white. But I found that the dried crystal residue could be removed on a post within a couple of minutes with fine glass paper on a wood block. So no problem there. This then exposed the lightest of brown and white surface which was perfectly acceptable to get the mahogany to match the white kitchen units that I was installing. Clear French polish took seconds to finish the job.

I have used this on several jobs and it works great, as long as you follow user guide word for word and have experience. I would recommend it to lighten wood before another finish (and it will raise the grain don't forget), be careful though... it burns skin and eyes if not properly protected!!!!!! Would only recommend for professionals who are used to handling such products.

Worked really well on some rattan drawers which were discoloured but you do need to keep it wet before the Crystals develop.
