you get what you pay for.

When I say, "you get what you pay for" I do not imply negativity. It is a lightweight, well built, quality machine. My problem is I never used a "suitcase" welder before and in fairness I must be very careful not to compare it to the full sized mig unit that I am accustomed to using. Using only 115 volt power it is not going to perform like a full sized unit, (dah) but it works well if used within its area of capability. I wanted something small, lightweight, and portable that would weld light materials, and for the money I received what I was after. Once "I" become familiar with this new machine I'm sure I will be very pleased with its performance. The more I use it the more I like it, it is a good purchase, I am pleased, and I recommend it. I also found the instructions to be well written. that's my opinion.

Noisy fan. Quality hobart is not what it used to be.

Returned first welder because of noisy fan, second welder better but terribly noisy. Called Hobart, they were nice enough to send me the parts so I could fix it myself. Trigger handle is cheap, the button has to be pulled tight as you can or it kicks on and off. I purchased this welder after using my dads 120 Hobart for years with no problems. I was hoping this 140 Hobart would be as good of quality and last another 20 years. I would not recommend this welder.

  • Spend the money.

Already had a Lincoln 220V and Craftsman 110V arc welders which were fine. Wanted to get into wire welding without either breaking the bank or buyng disposable low end stuff. This is a great starter's set with room to grow into real MiG welding at a quality and value point that is worthwhile. Sure you can buy a budget wire welder for $99 with a coupon, but it and you will never be any more of a welder than when it comes out of its box. Easy assembly (minor stuff) and clear instructions. Also like the variety of wire sizes and weights that this accommodates. Next up is a bottle an unshielded wire. I know that the old timers keep saying to learn how to stick weld first, but this welder makes me look like I know what I am doing. And it will likely last for my son's lifetime.

  • Good welder, poor packaging.

Received my Hobart handler 140 from UPS. Delivered to my home. I purchased solid core welding wire and gas from a local weldi g supply store ahead of time. Opened box that the welder was shipped in, which had some shipping damage. Found all the correct contents inside however the welder front panel had come loose and the side access door was not attached to the welder. Had to partially disassemble the welder to reattach the side door and front panel. After that I was able to finish assembling the welder per the instructions and connecting the gas regulator and tank. Unit comes with a small amount of flux core wire but I like gas flux so used that instead. Welder works great. Easy to use. Haven't welded anything too hefty yet but I am sure it will do fine.

  • Hobart is a excellent home welder

I was using a Harbor Freight 100 mig welder and it did ok on some small projects, but for work like making some light square tube frame work I needed to step up to something more powerful, yet still work on the 110 power my garage has. Mig gas or flux core, the 140 handler has your back.

  • Additional Requirements

Great Welder for the money. Two things you will have to do. First, it comes set up for fluxcore, however a flux core tip isn't included. But you can fluxcore weld using the supplied gas tip. Second, the .030 fluxcore wire that comes with the machine is only a few ounce sample. Buy wire coils so you will be able to weld extensively. Another tip is to buy anti-spatter spray to make spatter cleanup a snap.

  • Hands down, Best 140 welder.

I own 3 of these, I do mobile welding with a service truck and my hatchback and one for the garage, and there is only a few things that I've had to pass up. I mainly work with 1/4" to 16 gauge, so .030 wire will penetrate and have the best control. The fan is noisy, but I like it because it's always on, and always cooling. My grinder is noisy too, as is my 32v V8. These welders are built by Miller and share alot of the same parts. Compare it to the Miller 141 and you'll see where the value is.

I am not a pro welder but not a first time welder, I tested it out of on .145 thick pipe , (doing hand railing for steps at the house ) welded beautiful at factory settings , tried on .125 same results , I am the limiting factor . very good machine for a round the house

  • Killer Welder. Killer Value.

Bought this Hobart to replace the Miller 211 my son decided was his. A Hobart is a Miller. All the parts interchange. Very happy with my purchase. This welder will do everything I need it to do!
