a thoroughly researched, scholarly and readable account of the deportation of the Poles to the Soviet Union from 1940 and their subsequent travels and final settlement in the UK. Richly illustrated, many maps and original photographs. There are few accounts of this history available in the English language. Norman Davies is the leading British historian of Poland's past. Highly recommended.
It's well written very interesting to people wanting to find out what happened to a generation of displaced people and the hardships the second world war caused them
I bought this book for my 97 year old father who took this exact journey from Poland to England via the Russian Gulags, Persia, Palestine, Monte Casino and finally UK. It is packed with photos and amazingly there is a photo of my dad sat behind a machine gun!!!
Amazing book.
