I bought this because I had seen it before, and thought it a good, entertaining movie, suitable for family viewing. Although I liked the film, it was obviously a (excellent quality) copy, because none of the additional features worked, such as extra scenes, interviews, commentary etc. The DVD just played the movie, and nothing else. However, as it was so cheap, I did not worry too much about this. There are far too many of these counterfeit copies slipping through the net on ebay, and I think it is sad we are being ripped off by unscrupulous sellers.
This film has just about everything in it you could wish for,the Heroe(the late great Heath Ledger)the Villain(the fabulous Rufus Sewell) and music that is fantastic, great humour and send ups to keep you rolling around with laughter. The only fault is the fact it has to end, lol.
A story brought up to date with modern music, quite funny in places surrounding a traditonal rags to riches love story.
THE KNIGHT’S TALE. I acquired this DVD this as I wanted to get more of a handle on the tragically truncated career of Heath Ledger. Sadly it shed no light at all. I was also tempted by it being one of Chaucer's tales, - yes a tale, a vignette, not a padded out film of two hours long. Stylistically this film is very challenging as it suddenly overlays a medieval courante with contemporary rock music from the likes of Queen & Robbie Williams. And quite frankly, seeing big ensemble numbers supposedly at the court of Edward the Black Prince jigging around like stoned tarts at Glastonbury just doesn't inspire or elevate the mind , (and completely stretches the realms of plausibility!) Yet the film is clearly set in medieval times(well difficult to stick a film about jousting anywhere else really). And you can’t even excuse it by saying it's a modern interpolation; it’s not! The female lead, and object of Mr Ledger's passion, is dressed like a Beaton model at Ascot, except far more and far too tarty. And that's basic level of the film: it is a dreary, boring, long-winded heterosexual romp with no sense of style or discipline of period. Ugh! Utterly tedious! I think I'll try and sell my copy on e.bay I.MRead full review
This is a wonderful film with something for everyone in the family. When I bought it my daughter was 13 and my son 7. The action and adventure, excellent jousting and swordfighting scenes thrilled my son, whilst not being too graphic or glorifying fighting. My daughter and I loved the romance and historical aspects, the costumes and pageantry, and the humour, especially Chaucer, played by Paul Bettony, the bloke from the film "Wimbledon". My husband loved the soundtrack with music from Queen, David Bowie, and Thin Lizzy. Starring the sadly recently deceased Heath Leger at his most gorgeous, this is a medievil action packed romance, with humour, adventure and masses of action. Heath plays William Thatcher, a poor steward to an innefectual knight, who takes up jousting when his master dies by creating the new persona of a none existant knight called Ulrick. With help from his friends, a female blacksmith, and the obligatory comedy duo of one plump and one thin friend, plus Chaucer, of all people, he sets off to win fame and fortune, and the hand of the beautiful heroine. At every turn he is beset by the baddy, played by Rufus Sewell, who plays the opposite of Leger by being dark, rich, swarthy and sophisticated although equally hansome, who is jealous of William's sucess, both in the jousting field and with the heroine, Lady Jocelyn. We bought this DVD back in 2003 and have watched it many, many times since. We have recommended it to all our friends with children and they all loved it as much as we did. If you liked Pirates of the Carribean or Harry Potter you will really enjoy it, and so will children of all ages from about 5 upwards, when they can follow the plot. It is rated PG. We most recently on Tuesday 22nd Jan 2008 when we learned that Heath Leger had died, and cried. A fabulous family film and a fitting tribute to Heath Leger.Read full review
The whole idea of adding rock music to a medieval jousting / love rivalry story seemed silly but I was thrilled to see how well this worked. Crowds chanting "We will rock you" at a joust, noblemen and ladies performing staid dance moves to pipe and lute music that changes to more contemporary moves and David Bowies Golden Years. This against a film that makes every effort to make the rest authentic. But it all works. William Thatcher, a peasant employed by a knight who dies, decides to use his dead masters kit to pass himself off as noble knight on the jousting tournament circuit around Europe. Supported by his fellow otherwise unemployed squires, he gets embroilled in a feud with the nasty, arrogant nobleman Count Adhemar, not least because they both fancy the same lady. This film is exciting but also very humourous with plenty of surprises. Although you just know the final outcome early on (boy wins tournament and the girl) the route to that end is far from predictable. Without exception, all roles are well played. The only thing that didn't quite sit right was the infatuation our hero has for the Lady Jocelyn when he gave not a second glance to the totally totty Kate, played by Laura Fraser. Utter Madness. This is an utterly enjoyable film that can be watched again and again. Like a lot of people, I didn't know about this film until I was recommended to watch this film by a mate at work. If you haven't bought this yet, you are depriving yourself of pleasure.Read full review

This is a really good, easy to watch film about one man's quest to become a knight. There is an excellent soundtrack, including Queen's 'We Will Rock You' and some fantastic dialogue, especially from 'Chaucer'. Whilst there are elements of the film that are not strictly true to the era of the film, these in no way detract from its brilliance. Superb acting all round. I'd recommend it to everyone!
I absolutely love "A Knight's Tale", it is one of my all time favourite films. It combines history, comedy, romance and action to make a fun to watch, moving film. It is about a poor man with a big mind, who wants to win a competition he is not even allowed to enter, because of his social status. I don't want to give too much away but seriously, this is one of the best films you will ever see!
