My daughter was doing an English report on The Death of a Salesman and wanted a better understanding of it. Therefore, we purchased this DVD to assist her in her paper. She felt the movie helped her to understand the plot and characters easier.
The outstanding adaptation of Arthur Miller's stage masterpiece about Willie Loman (Dustin Hoffman), the emotionally broken-down salesman, coming to terms with his life and his family after being fired from his life-long job. This drama remains one of the most poignant and powerful stories in modern theatre...
I purchased this DVD because 30 years ago I had seen Warren Mitchell ('Death Do Us Part') acting as the Salesman in the stage play & was very moved by the role he played. The Play written by Arthur Miller was a Pulitzer Prize Winner. Wishing to recapture the memory of the Stage Performance this DVD with Dustin Hoffman as Willy Loman the Salesman seemed a good buy, I was not mistaken.
If you want to see first class acting (both Hoffman and Malcovich won awards) then this version offers a lot. However, there are two other versions, bot of which I prefer - the one with Lee J. Cobb in the lead (another TV version) and the original feature film version with Frederic March playing Willy Loman. The last is hard to come by and I hope it will soon be put on DVD. It deserves a place with the others.
This is a wonderful film, Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich at their best. It is presented more as a play with interesting sets rather than a feature film. The tentions between the father and his son Biff are complex and intriguing as the story unfolds. I loved this play, saw it many years ago and bought it from ebay to keep and watch from time to time.
I bought this dvd because it was years since I saw the film so wanted to watch it again and at £1-00 who could complain.
