These two guys were early members of "The Shadows",but both left under quite mysterious circumstances, as its unusual for key members of Groups to leave at the height of a bands success. They teamed up soon after, and were quite successful for a while, although the Bass/Drums formula quickly started to wear thin. They had big hits in the Sixties with "Applejack", "Scarlett O'Hara",and "Diamonds" amongst others, but when jet Harris was severely injured in a car crash Meehan had to complete a tour on his own, with a replacement bass player.Meehan issued one more single before he called it a day "The Man with the Golden Arm",before he went into record production. Harris has continued an on/off solo career ever since, and issued the odd CD on independent labels which can be purchased on his website. On hearing the tracks on this CD again it is noticable how much they have dated, but i must admit at the time they sounded Great!, but that was nearly 50 Years ago!. Finally,if you are a devout Shadows fan as I am,you will probably wish to own this Cd , as completists have to have everything by a band, and its original members.Otherwise for the merely curious I would think this CD would become pretty tedious after about 5 minutes listening.Read full review
To appreciate this album you would need to like 60's and 70's style guitar music. This of course is obvious, anybody not doing so would not bid on it. However what this album demonstrates is that Jet Harris and Tony Meehan did not have a long enough or successful enough career to issue a Greatest Hits album of this length. Some of the tracks, such as Diamonds, Applejack and Bésame Mucho are really good but others are not. Some, especially those recorded by Jet Harris in the 1980's, are fairly dire and you wonder why anybody would want to release them. I would think this should be an 8 or 9 track product at best.
