Keith Murray (vocals, guitar) Chris Cain (bass) and Michael Tapper (drums) were the curators of the album, now only Keith and Chris remain in the band. There previous work was self released, but this was the first major release. The album jump starts with fast paced nobody move, nobody get hurt and never looks back. One of there big hits and a live favorite. The resounding intro to the scene is dead brings the pace down, only to be picked up again. The scene is dead brings a hint of emotion to their album, which wasn't present most of the earlier recordings. Inaction follows up the scene is dead, which also packs emotion not only in a lyrical sense but also in the guitar. These two songs compliment each other perfectly, and also come as a pair when played live. Can't lose starts minimal, taking a break from full on guitar power chords. It could be described as the slow song of the album, however it climax's with thick chords which just makes me motionless in awe! Not for long however, because callbacks brutally brings the pace back up with a catchy lyric and a heavy guitar riff. Cash Cow launches itself in instantly, with danceable drum and bass riffs signifying the start of the best part. It catches you like a hook which will take you to the top! If you didn't get caught on cash cow then Its a hit will have you on your knees. Proving that We Are Scientists have the skill to write energy filled songs which rip through you. The all to familiar riff of the great escape starts their biggest hit. It takes you from bottom to top, and is the high point of the album. The catchy riff sticks better than blue-tack and resounds in your head. If We Are Scientists were one hit wanders then this would be the hit! After the last few songs, you just want more, which is why textbook seems to be the wrong choice to put there, however you soon realise you've been spat out into something amazing. Textbook sounds almost out of place and is completely opposite to the great escape. However after you start listening you realise that its a beauty of a track, with hypnotic lyrics and a deep, thoughtful chorus. Lousy reputation is a another thoughtful track, which is big sounding and again, has magic lyrics. It has contrasting high and low points. Worth the wait includes more thought inspiring lyrics which stick in your head. Its a great penultimate track, which brings you out of hypnotic state the last few tracks out you in, and brings you round to the last track. The close of the album brings together the crafted lyrics, catchy guitar riffs and rhythms. It represents the end of a night, how your trying your hardest to stay with it! Its the perfect way to finish off, and just makes you want to hit repeat and do it all again. BUY IT NOW! There new album, brain thrust mastery, is out in march (2008), and is sounding like its going to be bigger and better than this!Read full review
The debut album from We Are Scientists pleases all fans of indie, rock and pop genres with catchy songs that stick in your mind well after the CD has been removed from its player. Geat songs such as 'Nobody Move, Nobody Gets Hurt', 'Lousy Reputation' and the incredible 'The Great Escape' have lifted the profile of this American band, now embarking on a sell-out UK tour to back up the release of their second album released here. Funkier than Franz Ferdinand, edgier than Kaiser Chiefs and better tuned than The Killers, this is one of the truly great debut albums.
I was listening to one of these internet 'radio' stations that are part of the genome project. This is where songs are deconstructed into their various components and rated accordingly. Then, based on what you tell it that you like, it serves you music that you should like. That's how I came to hear my first track off this album and I was hungry for more. After looking them up on other websites, and hearing to another couple of tracks along the way, I knew I had to have their album. That's how I came to buy it on eBay and I wasn't disappointed. Every track on the album is a finely crafted rock song and my only complaint is that they're too short. It's the title of an album by a different group but it describes this album perfectly - ALL KILLER, NO FILLER!!
Fantastic album, shame it's taken me this long 2 get round 2 buying it! It's not until listening 2 this album that u realise that the songs(singles)they did were actually them (if u know wot i mean).
excellent album from this group, heard a few individual tracks on compilation albums so gave them a try and very pleased with this album.
