Had been contemplating purchasing this classic fountain pen for a year or more. After seeing a couple of reviews recently, I decided to have a look on eBay since it is a popular item. Was gratified to see exactly what I was looking for. My hesitancy in making the decision to acquire the Lamy 2000 stemmed from its minimalist design, but when I saw how well engineered it is, I was convinced. However, I still did not to be particularly wowed by it due to its simple, straightforward appearance. However, upon actually laying eyes on it, and holding it in my hands, I immediately sensed the reason for its stature in the fountain pen world as Lamy’s flagship product. It is inked and in my rotation of pens in use, and a source of pleasure to see, hold, and apply ink to paper with.

This request for a review prompted me to pull my Lamy 2000 out of the junk pen box and compare it to a KAKO Edge. Slightly different price points. Although the KACO writes much better, it is not quite as comfortable. Maybe I just got a bad nib on the Lamy but a replacement nib costs as much as 10 KACO's. They say that Lamy does make some good nibs, but I didn't happen to get one.

Minimalist and inviting design with an obvious Bauhaus accent. The gold fine nib is very smooth and wet. I love the large ink capacity and piston filler. The Makralon material used in the barrel and cap is my favorite - so comfortable. My one complaint is the small metal nub in the barrel that helps lock the cap shut. Tiny as it is, my thumb rests right on it when writing, and it bugs me. Dang! Otherwise an outstanding pen.

After more than 50 of production of exactly the same design this pen still looks great. This pen gives an extremely satisfying writing experience, smooth with just the right amount of feedback. I’ve had no trouble with skipping or hard starts. And it holds plenty of ink. The construction is very solid and smooth. If you’re looking for a writing instrument in which you can feel the German engineering, the this is a pen you should take a close look at. I particularly like the clip. It is spring loaded and can be opened be just pinching at the top of the cap. If you like to carry a pen in you shirt pocket, as I do, this makes it super easy.
