QUIRKY SHOW TRIES TO DISCOVER THE TRUE MEANING OF LIFE
Based on the entirely insane premise that some newly-dead exist in a transitory state where they must work as soul-reapers, the show is really a commentary on our way of living and dying. I didn't find either the 1st Season, or this 2nd Season very comedic, but there are enough amusing elements that are entertaining. I found most of the scripts well written--there are a few duds and some are plain gross--but all try to strike a balance between the opposite poles of comedy and drama, with a little bit of soul-searching thrown in. I don't think I can even call this series a "dramedy" -- it is more of a thoughtful examination of how our life choices perhaps do influence life after death. This doesn't have any bearing on whether you do or don't believe in the afterlife. To me, the stories were a way to try and find out if any of us can find redemption. That is, what might we have done if we had an opportunity to choose a different life's path than the one we had chosen.
