Now obsolete but a good printer. The parameters of the printer can be adjusted via a web browser. The basic model does not do duplex printing. Good as a network printer with ethernet and USB sockets but has no built in wifi so has to be connected by ethernet or USB cable to a wireless access point or computer. For networking the IP address should be set manually in the printer using the buttons on the front panel or the router should be given a reserved address for the printer. Dirt tends to be present on the optical surfaces of older models and may produce pale margins or other faults in prints. Dismantling to reach and clean the optics is not difficult for the practically minded and there are several web sites offering instructions for this.

Laser unit mirrors need regular cleaning, Prints nice photographs. Toners are cheap but dont last as long as expected. Almost never has paper jams.

I had a HP1600 which gave me good service for about 20 years. Eventually too many problems with paper feed, so I conceded that I should probably replace it. The replacement is superb and even provides network connectivity. Fairly new cartridges supplied which are interchangeable with those in my old HP1600, so nothing is wasted! Question is, should I ask this firm to refurbish my “old faithful”? and then have two! It’s a thought! If they reply to this it’s a matter of “How much?”

This has been a really good investment for me, its networked smoothly and the prints are really good. The printer itself is easy to use and reliable, and though replacement cartridge costs can be high the actual costs per print are half the cost as compared to an inkjet printer so in the long term more economical,plus plus all round :-)
