Product Information
The latest title in Midland's series on Irish transport is a pictorial history of the buses which were operated by CIE, the state transport company to the south of Ireland, from 1945 through to the late 1980s. CIE was set up in 1945 to take over the country's railways and canals. It also took the Dublin United Transport Company and provincial bus services into its net. The book's introduction deals with both the formation of the new company and its constituent ancestors, providing what is effectively a potted history of Irih road transport, not ignoring the railway context in which much of the development took place. Once CIE got into its stride, there began the close relationship with the British bus manufacturer Leyland which continued for the next forty odd years, the vast majority of CIE buses being Leyland products. The author a senior executive with Bus Eireann, charts the development of the CIE fleet over these years examining the vehicles employed on city, provincial and schools services.Product Identifiers
