About this product

Product Information

As anyone who's been on one knows, big bikes--Harleys, dressers, tourers, cruisers--handle differently than smaller bikes. They have different centers of gravity; they steer more slowly; they put you in a different riding positions; and riding one--especially riding it well--requires different skills. This book is aimed at helping owners of such motorcycles--bikes with big engines, long wheelbases, and a lot of weight--get the best ride out of them. Maximum Control addresses every aspect of riding--steering, positioning, braking, and carrying a passenger or heavy load. With clear information on differences in equipment--brakes, engine, drive system, even tires--this expert, accessible guide provides everything you need to know to handle your bike like a pro. The outcome will be, as promised, Maximum Control--and the ride of your life.

  • Best help I have found in a book for big bikes

Excellent American book written in an easy laid back style that is great for a Harley novice like me who is just learning how to handle such a big heavy bike. The author offers clear instructional text & photo sections on rather important matters such as basic braking, using the friction zone for sharp turns and low speed handling, but also is exceptionally practical in the advice offered throughout the book. Helpfully he acknowledges that riding a heavy bike is a challenge, and rather than adopting a macho approach says ' do what is comfortable to you' ... e.g. 'duck walk' the bike in a tight spot if you're not confident to do the turn with feet up... better to do that than risk falling off and damaging the bike and yourself... just get more practice where its safe to do so and the skill & confidence will come'. I would highly recommend this book as the author and his two co-authors, (both motorcycle police officers), clearly understand people who ride big Tourers and the challenges they face with the bike itself and when out on the road, so there is advice aplenty on how to keep safe and enjoy the ride.
