The Leica Summicron-M 90mm f/2 ASPH lens is simply stunning. Built to the highest standards, it is like a jewel. Given its longer focal length, it is larger than many M lenses yet still feels at home on a Leica M240. It is extraordinary that Leica manage to pack a superb 90mm f/2 lens into this form factor: in other Full Frame systems, this lens would weigh twice as much. The lens is optically uncompromising. Its narrow depth of field and longer focal length provide extraordinary subject isolation and superb bokeh. Rangefinders are intrinsically less accurate at longer focal lengths, but this lens is still reasonably easy to focus and frame reliably. You may require a little practice and expect some missed focus in your early shooting. Older M cameras may also require a rangefinder calibration, as this lens will be less forgiving of rangefinder errors. Some people report that they do not use this lens as regularly as others in their bag. It is more of a portrait focal length rather than a "walking around" standard lens. Yet all of that is just a matter of habit and shooting style. It has filled an important niche in my kit, which previously did not go longer than 50mm. The one complaint I have about this lens is that its in-built hood does not lock when extended, as many of the new M lens hoods do. It is only held extended by the friction of some felt, so the hood often retracts unintentionally. This is an expensive lens, even when purchased used. It hurt to buy it. Yet I have absolutely no regrets that I did. If you can afford this lens, I would certainly recommend buying one.Read full review

Beautiful rendering. On the SL2, no chromatic abberations, or very tiny amounts in the worst situations. Long focus throw. Sharp as a razor in a pile of broken glass on top of a mountain of knives. Bokeh is smooth, buttery, and full of contrast. It's just a pleasure to use.

Top IQ, sharpness second to none. Built quality very good like all Leica lens. Weight and size just nice.. not big and not too small also. everything is perfect.. the only complain is price.. as you know Leica is being a Leica :)
This is the absolute BEST Lens made by any manufacturer as far as overall image quality is concerned. The only item that is better is "God's Human Eye"!!! There are many lenses that are Very Good, but, the Leica APO-ASPH 90mm Summicron is at the Top of the Mark. I've used Nikon, Canon, Rolleiflex and Hasselblad over my Forty years of photography, but, nothing compares to the Leica M system, once you totally understand how the Rangefinder system works. Even though the Price of a few thousand dollars may deter some individuals...this Price is Very CHEAP for what the Lens does for the Photographic Experience--- Best Regards...S. excellent pictures and very easy to focus. it is light weight and small to fit easily in a small camera bag.
This lens is sharp edge to edge, and wide open. Dont know if the built in hood was necessary but it's handy. Stops easily identified. Focus smoothe.

Being a Leica M owner for the last 50 years, I owned and used almost every significant Leica lens. I have have owned several 90MM Summcrons and the APO Summicron is the best I've ever owned. Fast, sharp, gorgeous bokeh. This lens does not disappoint. Beautiful portraits. I can't think of a single negative. This is a "must have" lens for every M kit.
right amount of sharpness for portrait shooting
