Mech games, although really prolific at the time in Japan, was a (sadly) overlooked genre in Europe. Sadly, mostly because thats a good game genre on its own merit and also because they worked very well on consoles. Along with some games like Mechwarrior 2, very few saw their way into Pal territory during the Playstation golden age, but Armored Core did. And it easly stole the crown as soon as it got here. Armored Core is one of the best games/series on the Mech genre, and it's a shame the sequels never saw the light of day, again, in Pal coutries, making it even more of a gem for the Playstation collector or simply if you're into mech/robot action games from that time, this really is one of a kind for the european Playstation gamer.
Armored Core 1 is the best PS1 game in my opinion! It has a bit rough yet very good graphics to the games atmosphere, music and other sounds also fit the game well. The game has somewhat intriguing plot and a lot of missions to play through with all types of enemies, hidden AC parts and smart way to cut off your missions salary due to the unnecessary havoc caused by the player. Game also has a link-game option via 2 PS1's and a link cable and your common for that day split screen two player game. Since being the first of the game family AC1 has less controlability and control options and has more use for L1/2 and R1/2 buttons than the followingAC games, and this is the way I feel is the right way to play Armored Core. If you wish to play the multiplayer (well dual player) game, I give you a good advice: get 2 games, 2 PS1's, 2 TV's, one link-cable and the other wires and have a good one! One game on a spli-screen is crap to be honest, a little peek on the opposite side of screen and you know where other player is.Read full review
