Beat the Devil
Quite a good story. Lots of the old stars in it. Only problem being it is in black and white. Bogart gives a good performance as he always did.
Beat The Devil
Four crooks are bound for Africa to stake a claim in an aluminium seam. While in Italy they team up with a very naive English couple (or are they?). Soon there is double-dealing and intrigue around every corner, add to the pot a mad British army ex-major, a ship they charter to take them to Africa sinking on its way there, and you have the bones of a very good story. Throw in Humphrey Bogart, Robert Morley, Peter Lorre and Gina Lollobrigida among others, who show just how skillful at acting they really are, add the fantastic John Huston as director and you've got yourself a pretty good film. Not one of Bogart's best, but not bad.

I bought this dvd because I am buying everything I can find featuring the highly talented, dazzlingly beautiful but SO SO underrated JENNIFER JONES. This movie, costarring the inimitable Humphrey Bogart, is a wonderful pastiche of crime movies of the 30s and 40s. The quick-fire repartee, particularly between these two main protagonists would not be out of place today. I strongly recommend any fan of old movies to watch this film and indeed any of the movies of Jennifer. Marcus Towell
