It contains Shirley an ace track, but unfortunately it has been remixed from the original and mostly ruined.

The reason why I bought this CD was because it contains the wonderful "She's Leaving Home", which to my mind is the definitive version of this well-known Beatles song. Billy Bragg's version has greater depth and subtlety and less schmaltz than the original. I've admired Billy Bragg ever since the Anti-Nazi concerts circa 1980, and have bought a few of his singles over the years; but this is the first album of his that I've owned. Maybe this means that I'm not best qualified to review it; but for what it's worth, here's my six pen'orth ... Something I like a lot about this album is the diversity of moods that the songs represent. This isn't too surprising, perhaps, given that the songs were recorded on a number of different occasions with varying accompanists. Nevertheless, it makes for a very fresh-sounding collection. No formulas. No "samey-ness". Apart from "She's Leaving Home", I really liked "Shirley" and "Scholarship Is The Enemy Of Romance". I wouldn't describe any of the tracks as weak; but Bragg's version of "Walk Away Renee" is (for me) the most flawed track on the album. Even that one has its attractions. For diehard Billy Bragg fans, this collection probably fills a few gaps in the recorded "ouevres". For others with a receptive and curious interest, this collection will not disappoint.Read full review
